HYATT REGENCY KINABALU : FORTY WONDERFUL YEARS OF HOSPITALITY EXCELLENCE AND CARE

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu celebrated its 40th anniversary on 1 August 2019, commemorating four decades of milestone achievements. The property was officially opened as Kinabalu International Hotel by then Deputy Prime Minister YAB Dr.Mahathir Bin Mohamad on 11 May 1977.

Centrally located just 4 miles from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), it is the first five-star international hotel in Sabah to offer business travellers and tourists first-class accommodation. In July 1979, Kinabalu International Hotel entered into an agreement with Hyatt Hotel Management Ltd (Hyatt), a company incorporated in Hong Kong, to manage the hotel which is now known as Hyatt Regency Kinabalu.

Over the past 40 years, the hotel has undergone a number of upgrading works to ensure that the best quality of services and facilities are provided to their guests. The works among others included the refurbishments of the 288 spacious guestrooms, Tanjung Ria Kitchen and Terrace, Avantang Spa & Gym, The Residence, and many more.

The 40th annversary event was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister and State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment of Sabah, YB Datuk Christina Liew. The auspicious event was also attended by Yang Berbahagia Datuk Haji Pengiran Mohd Hussein bin Datuk Haji Pengiran Mohd Nasruddin and Yang Berbahagia Datuk Maisuri Bin Besri, Former Managing Directors of Kinabalu International Hotel, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Haji Pangeran Saifuddin Pangeran Tahir, Managing Director of SEDCO Group and Yang Berbahagia Datuk Gordon Leong, Chairman of Kinabalu International Hotel Sdn Bhd.

The main highlight if the ceremony was the unveiling of extensive new mural paintings. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu collaborated with several talented local artists to create momentous murals showcasing the distinct culture and ethnicity of Sabah. The murals were also part of Hyatt's initiatives to promote Kota Kinabalu in the tourism industry, as the city is continually visited by tourists from all over the world.

During the unveiling, 15 of Hyatt's longest-serving employees pulled the curtains to reveal the 165-foot-long mural on the property walls. As the employees drew down the curtains, master of ceremonies Ben Uzair recounted highlights from their career journeys, some spanning more than 34 years with the hotel, for a combined total of 546 years of experience among them.

To celebrate this milestone, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu is offering a series of special offers throughout the month of August 2019. This includes 40% discount of every 40th guest dining in at Tanjung Ria Kitchen for buffet lunch or dinner, and RM40 nett for all-time favourite signature dish, Oxtail Assam Pedas.

"In Hyatt, we prioritize the family value among one another, as we believe that having a strong bond among the employees will make the working environment become better. With the opportunities and great people we have, I believe tomorrow will continue to go from strenght to strenght," said General Manager Thor Gervasi.

The 40th anniversary celebration is not only meant to commemorate four decades of the hotel's milestone achievements, it is to honour the dedication and commitment of its employees, past and present.
